On February 12, a former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov took part in the first-ever boxing bout in the LegionFarm, a gamer metaverse. Khabib’s opponent was former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway. The fight was broadcasted on Twitch.
The fighters fought in Oculus Quest 2 headsets and as avatars for the bout, the fighters chose characters from the movie “Rocky 4”. As his avatar, Khabib chose Apollo Creed, and Holloway, in turn, played as Ivan Drago. But the outcome of the fight was not the same as in the movie, to be more exact, it was completely the opposite.
Khabib celebrated the victory by throwing a total of 98 punches against his opponent. Holloway didn’t try hard enough, so he only managed to land 65 punches.
At the end of the fight, Khabib gave a short interview, where he added that he enjoyed the fight and shared his opinion that the future is behind the metaverse:
“There’s something about it. I’m all sweaty and tense after the fight. It was very interesting, there’s a future behind it, I’m sure,” — said former champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
